DOG BATHERS

Serenity Pet Spa is a full-service Madison dog grooming salon. We provide compassionate and thorough care for dogs. As an employee of Serenity Pet Spa, you will be required to bathe and care for our client’s pets with an exceptional level of care and quality.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Dog Bather position doesn’t require previous skills or experience. Bring your love for dogs and willingness to get your hands dirty and we’ll teach you the rest! 

Your duties will include bathing and prep work for dogs in the salon as directed by the lead stylist. This job requires heavy lifting, standing, and moving around. All employees of Serenity Pet Spa are expected and encouraged to share their knowledge and work as a team to provide the best treatment to animals in our care. Mentoring and teaching others is a pivotal part of the success of the entire salon. 

You'll be trained to:

  • Bathe dogs clean and rinse all coat types 

  • Dry dogs

  • You’ll gain knowledge of basic salon offerings for shampoos/conditioners/specialty products 

  • Learn how to de-shed, including pre-blow, proper bathing, and drying techniques 

  • Clean the shop, work with customers, learn how to provide dog comfort, and create a safe experience 

  • Communicate with the groomers on the condition and behavior of the dogs 

  • Basic breed identification 

  • Be to work on time and in uniform 

  • Understand and complete opening and closing duties as required by individual shift

The starting pay is $12-$16/hour. This pay range is based on knowledge of the following to be understood within the first two-week training period: 

  • Bathing – clean and rinse all coat types 

  • Knowledge of basic salon bath offerings for shampoos/conditioners/specialty products 

  • Drying – force drying all coat types and understanding the difference between wet and dry 

  • Performing a de-shed including pre-blow, proper bathing, and drying techniques 

  • General awareness of shop needs: cleanup, client relations, dog comfort, safety 

  • Communicating with the groomers on the condition and behavior of dogs 

  • Basic breed identification 

  • Be to work on time and in uniform 

  • Understand and complete opening and closing duties as required by individual shift

As skills are perfected, the pay will increase. Raises will be given when the following criteria are met:

  • Trim and grind nails, trim paw pads, and card/rake and comb through short-coated dogs: $1.00/hour. You will also receive tips on dogs you finish through. 

  • Computer/Front Desk Skills: $1.00/hour 

    • Proper client communication 

    • Answering the phone 

    • Check-in/check-out clients 

    • Input notes 

    • Read and understand the schedule 

    • Input new client paperwork 

  • Thoroughly brush and comb through all coat types including fluff drying/straightening of curly coats.  The coat should be completely ready for the stylist to begin the trim: $0.75/hour 

  • Advanced bathing knowledge: $0.75/hour 

    • Identifying needed drying styles without assistance (flat, fluffy, fan dry) 

    • Determine dog’s coat needs at check-in (de-shed, shave down, matted, etc.) 

    • Knowledge of Thera Clean System maintenance and uses.

The above tasks can be completed in any order based on your comfort. Once these are all completed, you may move to the final steps before full grooming training begins.
